A Moment to Remember - Squidding @Rye

This weekend was a very relaxing and fun way to spend it with my girlfriends from high school. Since Wongie is leaving us in June for Japan, our trip to Rye was basically our last one for the year together. We had such a memorable trip doing so many things as well as talking about absolutely everything under the sun! They say 'you just can't turn back time', but at least I can capture the moments hey?...

Let's follow the journey >>>

Sat 1st April: - 7:15 am
Having Maccas at Seaford on our way to Rye
Me & Wongie

Linda, Chai, Cam

8am - 1st stop @Sorrento
2nd Stop: Portsea - so very very windy!

"I'm the next karate kid.."
"No, I am! No I am! No I am!"

Next.. after all the shops were opened, we decided it's time to get our bait and fishing licences so we can go Fishing and Squidding!

So off we went to Rye Pier - famous for catching SQUID!

Even though the weather was extremely cold, extremely windy, we were determined to catch our dinner! So the girls set up the rods for themselves as well as for me, the amateur!

So we stood there for hours (even had fish and chips for lunch on the pier as our 10mins break), battling the cold wind and determined to put food on the table before the sun sets...

So 2hrs later, one by one, somone screamed " I think I've caught something!" and sure enough calamari was certained to be on the menu for dinner....

Everyone had caught a squid all except Linda and I despite our pathetic attempts at catching small flathead (Linda) or the very poisonous pufferfish (me)...

So at around 5pm when the tide came in.. the once loser Vicky had finally became the winner of the day, catching 3 squids in less than 1hr, Linda also caught 1 while everyone else caught none!
Everytime you catch a squid, they are renown to squirt these filthy black ink as a way for them to protect themselves....
Too late! *Evil Laugh*

Before you know it, the sun was setting, it was time to pack our tackle box, clean our rods and take our total of 9 squids back to our apartment for a very nice deep fried calamari feast!

We stayed at this very cosy 2 bedroom house (which Linda found on the net!) with 5 beds and two living rooms, washing machine, 2 TVs, DVD player, kitchen facilties, heater, electric blankets, the whole lot! The place was filled with beautiful decor. All this for $150 per night! (we can even check out at 7pm the next day too!)

Oh, did I mention just how beautifully decorated the backyard was?
Cam had the privilege to clean the 9 squids which took her ONE whole hr! We chopped up 4 to fry while the other 5 we all took one each home to proudly show to our family! =)

The dinner was truely a team effort. I made the nachos and marinated the squid (dipped in flour, egg then breadcrumbs!), Wongie went out to take lemons from the backyard and helped set up the table including popping of the champers and Cabernet Savignon Semillon. Linda made the salads and heated up the premade lasagne, Cam of course cleaned the squid and fried it, while Chai cleaned up all the mess we left behind including washing of the dishes! (which btw, was done the next morning cos she forgot that it was end of daylight saving and got up 1hr earlier than us)

We talked a lot over wine. As we moved onto one topic after another, it made me realised that we have truely grown up and shared each of our life stage together. I remember back in highschool sleepovers, the topics were about boys, puberty, school work, VCE, uni, career etc. Now, it's about weddings, relationships, moving overseas and now a new topic called 'Motherhood!' . We have all agreed to have babies about the same time so we can share the experience together. Of course the main reason is so that all of us can hang out together with our babies and NOT get bored during our maternity leave! hahaha!
Anyways, the alcohol had made us just a bit tipsy and sleepy so we all hit the sack! Linda on the other hand had other ideas!!
Sun 2nd April: Taking our Morning Stroll @ the luminous Rye Beach

Or should I say.. bashing Wongie up @Rye Beach

It's time to pack up and make our way home..

Our Final moments together.....
The Party of Five Chix - aLwaYs & FoReveR!

It is by chance we met, by choice we became friends.
Friendship is a strange thing; we find ourselves telling each other the deepest details of our lives, things we don't even share with our families who raised us.
It is true great things come in small packages.
Once the package of friendship has been opened, it can never be closed.
It is a constant book always written waiting to be read and enjoyed.
We may have our disagreements, we may argue, we may concern one another,
But at the end of it all, friendship is a unique bond that lasts through it all.
