A friendship made in heaven!
It’s been 7 mths since I last saw Ed. We finally caught up for dinner at Chapelli’s (which is renowned for their to-die-for Bruschetti!) on Chapel St, 2hrs just before his flight back home to Tassie.
My friendship with Ed has gone back a long way! We first met at Monash International Marketing Study Tour about 4yrs ago. Both of us instantly clicked as we travelled so well together. He had the honour of climbing up the Eiffel Tower with me as well, we roamed the famous streets of New York & Memphis together. The good ol times!
Anyway, our amazing friendship started off as uni buddies to travel buddies. Then Ed became my career mentor as he was 2yrs senior than me in terms of being in the corporate world. We’ve been through all the good and bad times together mostly over the phone. There was a period in his life where he went through hell. So I began to encourage him by sharing to him the word of God (of course!). How did he respond? He didn’t want to hear it! surprise surprise! But I still kept him in my prayers and asked God to intervene and have mercy upon his life. That was about 3yrs ago.
Then finally last year, the impossible happened. Ed rings me out of the blue one day to tell me he is at the Franklin Graham Crusade in Hobart. He actually went there alone as he felt so strongly that there was something missing in his life.
To cut the story short, Ed changed 180' from an absolute aetheist who always depended on himself, to this humble man leaning upon God's strength. Ed's now a full on born again Christian and not only that, he is also a sunday school teacher at his local church. (another shock of the night as kids is usually the last thing he wants to talk about in the past!).
Ed really touched my heart when he thanked me for 'leading him to Christ' (even in the most subtle ways). He told me if it wasn't for my encouraging words over the phone to him that night at the FG Crusade, he wouldn't have gone up to the front for the altar call. All I can say is all Glory and Praise be unto God! His life is truly a testimony in itself. Such an encouragement to me everytime I catch up with him!
Who knows.. we may be church buddies next year if and when we both move up to Sydney!
